A field note for your care search

Find out who makes and sends it.

Keep the care service and the pharmacy as separate questions.

The mix-up

The website taking payment must also make the medicine.

The clearer answer

Online patients may not know which pharmacy or facility prepared their medicine, says the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Source a

Ask for that name before treating a website’s branding as the answer.

U.S. pharmacy rules as of September 26, 2026.

Trace the name to a public record

  • Get the pharmacy’s full name

Get the name of the pharmacy making the medicine, then the pharmacy filling and shipping your prescription. Keep those answers with the written treatment plan.

  • Use the state licence search

State boards of pharmacy hold pharmacy licence records. Source b

FDA provides a state-by-state route into those searches. Source c

  • Check the receiving state

Before an out-of-state pharmacy ships prescription medicine to patients, most states require it to have their licence or permit. Source d

Ask which record covers delivery to your state.

  • Compare the details you were given

Keep the result beside the pharmacy name in the service’s answer. Ask about any mismatch before proceeding.

A licence is a starting check

A state board’s listing shows that a pharmacy has a licence. Source c

It does not prove the pharmacy is right to fill every prescription it accepts. Source c

If the relevant state database has no licence listing for an online pharmacy, FDA advises you to avoid using it. Source c

If the search is unclear, ask the board how to read it. Save the name and the answer so the next conversation starts from the same details.
